Mr. Alex Stone, Head of FIFA’s Digital Channels and Co-Editor of the FIFA.com website was the expert speaker for the 2nd CIES Conference this year that was held on 5th December 2020. Mr. Stone, an experienced sports communications and digital marketing specialist with demonstrated history of working in the sports industry since 2000 at the English FA and FIFA provided an overview of FIFA’s Digital Journey from 2013 to present during his session.
During the session, Mr. Stone shed some light on the social media strategies used during FIFA’s major events including the FIFA World Cup (2014/18) and FIFA Women’s World Cup (2015/19). He also detailed how the digital reach of Women’s football grew drastically from 2015 to the 2019 World Cup. Mr. Stone was also able to give a local touch to the session as he shared his experience in covering the 2017 U-17 FIFA World Cup in India and the formation of the FIFA Hindi Twitter account specifically for the event.
