Expert Speaker – Rodrigo Garza, Olympic Silver Medalist in Hockey & Sports Sponsorship Expert
Mr. Garza, an Olympic silver medalist in field hockey with Spain and a specialist in sports marketing and sponsorship conducted the 1st CIES Conference for the participants of the 22-23 batch of the PILLAI/FIFA CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management. The online session was held on 27th November, 2022 on the topic of How to Build a Sponsorship Proposal using the Canvas Model. Mr. Garza has received his Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing and has an International certificate in Corporate Finance.
Mr. Rodrigo took participants through the various important factors to consider while drawing up a sponsorship proposal, with a special focus on the sponsorship Canvas Model. He spoke about the changing trends in sports sponsorship and the increasing influence of social media and later went on to share a detailed plan he had designed for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), giving the class a precious insight into a successful sponsorship strategy. Other interesting bits included an introduction to sponsorship’s OGSM (objectives, goals, strategy, measures) model. At the end of the class, participants were split into three groups and asked to pick a brand and design a sponsorship plan for a sports property, which was followed by a feedback session with Mr. Garza. It was an in-depth session which was enjoyed by the participants.
