The sheer scale of operations, bringing the world’s best sportspersons into one nation for just about a fortnight, is humungous. The Games of the 32nd Olympiad in Tokyo expect over 11,090 athletes from 206 nations participating in 339 events!
The current pandemic crisis has shaken the world like never before. As it spread to almost every part of the globe and nations reacted with lockdowns, there was a serious question mark over the conduct of the 2020 edition of the Games in Tokyo. However, the IOC responded by postponing the Olympics by a year to July 2021. This change might seem small to many but the complications arising from it are unimaginable. Never before has an Olympic games been postponed like this.
